Black Mold Inspection Tips

Disaster always seems to strike when you least expect it. You could find yourself waking up to a flooded basement or come home from a long trip to discover your bathroom sink’s pipe has been leaking. Either way there’s bound to be mold and you’ll certainly want to have a black mold inspection done to prevent both home and health issues.

Whether you’re trying to save some money in this economy by doing it yourself or you’ve decided to suck it up and dish out the money and hire a professional to inspect your home, it should be done as quickly as possible to stop any mold growth dead in its tracks.

One of the most common signs of toxic fungus is seeing it or smelling it. Molds often give off a musty smell with some giving off a rotten odor. If you can smell the fungus, but you’re unable to see it, try searching for sources of water leaks.

And chances are if you have a water problem you’re bound to have a fungus problem and vice versa. But if you can’t see the mold, you may need to throw in your gloves and call a professional mold inspector to help identify hidden places where mold can occur.

Your next step will be to assess whether you can remove the toxic mold yourself or if you’ll need to hire a mold removal company to clean up the toxic infestation. If you have infants, pets, elderly or family members who have weak immune systems living in your home, you’ll want to take the precautions necessary to isolate them from the room or rooms that are contaminated with the toxic fungus. If you or your family members notice any sudden health issues, you should seek temporary housing until the mold can be cleaned up.

Once your home has a black mold inspection done and is considered free from the fungus and safe once again, you’ll want to prevent any future occurrences of the toxic fungus by eliminating any unnecessary water or extreme humidity in your home. Just remember, even the cleanest and driest homes can still become susceptible to mold.

James Anderson critically reinterprets the history of southern black education from Reconstruction to the Great Depression. By placing black schooling within a political, cultural, and economic context, he offers fresh insights into black commitment to education, the peculiar significance of Tuskegee Institute, and the conflicting goals of various philanthropic groups, among other matters. Initially, ex-slaves attempted to create an educational system that would support and extend their emancipation, but their children were pushed into a system of industrial education that presupposed black political and economic subordination. This conception of education and social order—supported by northern industrial philanthropists, some black educators, and most southern school officials—conflicted with the aspirations of ex-slaves and thei descendants, resulting at the turn of the century in a bitter national debate over the purposes of black education. Because blacks lacked economic and political power, white elites were able to control the structure and content of black elementary, secondary, normal, and college education during the first third of the twentieth century. Nonetheless, blacks persisted in their struggle to develop an educational system in accordance with their own needs and desires.
