Chlorine gives off a bleach smelling odor but there is a way to keep that down by using minerals. Nature 2, King and other manufacturers make a stick of minerals that you place in your hot tub once every 3-4 months and it sanitizes your hot tub. You also need to supplement this method by using a very small amount of chlorine to kill any really bad elements in your water.

You may of heard of Baquacil for a pool, well if not it's a sanitizer that doesn't use chlorine or bromine. They also make this chemical for your hot tub and it's called Baquaspa. You can get this in other brands but this seems to be the most popular.
