When some people read about landscape lighting, they shake their heads and think it’s only for the rich and famous. People that have lavish gardens and huge houses that can afford to light them up at night just so that they can show them off. However, this couldn’t be any further from the truth. There’s many different uses of outdoor landscape lighting that everyone can use, no matter if they have a one bedroom ranch house or a huge Victorian mansion.
One of the most common types of landscape lighting is outdoor deck lighting. Many homes have outdoor areas, whether they be a deck, patio, or carport, all of them use the same kind of lighting. With properly placed outdoor deck lights you can grill out on warm summer nights and when you’re done grilling enjoy the fruits of your labor with a nice outdoor meal with your family. You can entertain or just use the area as a place of relaxation to kick back and sit or just read a book.
Path lighting is another great use of landscape lighting. Path lighting does just what it says, it lights the paths up to your house. These can be something exotic like a walk through a garden, but are more commonly lights placed along your driveway and paths to your front and back door. They make it safer for everyone to navigate your property at night, keeping them on the path, off your flowerbeds, and away from any tripping hazards.
Finally, landscape lighting is great for home security. Installing high powered motion lights outside your home can reduce your chances of being robbed by up to 25%. Robbers would much rather target a dark house than risk being seen by your neighbors.
As you can see, outdoor landscape lighting isn’t just for the rich, it can be used by everyone to brighten up their property and add a little more functionality. Adding a few landscape lights will make a significant impact on the way both looks and is used today.
