Design Ideas For A Retro Or Modern Kitchen

With a kitchen renovation project you want to find the best plans possible, which will ultimately depend on the size of your kitchen. Smaller kitchens need design ideas which utilize the space available to its full potential. This will mean avoiding large appliances and items which can easily fill a small room.

The retro items that you can find are often quite small and so are perfect for smaller spaces such as those kitchens found in apartments or cottages. The more modern items are often much larger and therefore more suitable for big ranch style kitchens. If you are lucky enough to be designing your kitchen from scratch then these ideas can be incorporated into your plans.

A lot of the modern kitchens you find nowadays are filled with stainless steel appliances, have a large central island with stunning range hoods sitting above. They come at a price, however, and you will pay for having the cutting edge contemporary look. One of the big advantages, apart from the look, is the fact that they are so easy to clean due to the steel surfaces.

The ease of cleaning is an important point to think about, especially if you have young children or running a busy household. Another popular choice of material in the modern kitchen is glass. If it breaks, however, it can be very expensive to replace.

If you have a small kitchen, the perfect way to efficiently use the space available is to go for a retro style look. Many retro looks use a small table with high backed chairs that fit around it perfectly. This is cheaper than booth style setting or heavy oak furniture. They can also be made easy to clean by fitting splash-backs and a checkered tile floor. One of the biggest benefits is that this look is inexpensive to get. You can also get a smaller cupboard range hood which is easily hidden away and does not take up a lot of room.

You will often find that the appliances are a lot smaller in a retro styled kitchen. Some appliances, such as the dishwasher, may be omitted completely. For many this may not be a problem, but for some, they cannot live without their dishwasher. It is, however, important to try and be as authentic as possible when it comes to your retro design.
