As the cold winter months have firmly claimed their spot for this year, I can't wait until I see the consistent shine of the Sun and the warmth of spring. Usuallly in Spring, I take a hard look at the long list of "to-do's" that I have been unable to get to while fighting off snow and ice all winter. This winter I thought of a cool new project that might really add some vibrancy and style to my den. It involves using window film for a few windows that I'm not too sure what to do with.
I usually take our family dog for a walk each day, and as I walked around my neighborhood for the past few months, I've noticed one house in particular that has what looks like stained glass window film on a few windows that face the alley. One day while I was walking by, I caught the home owner outside and asked her what she had done to her windows. You see, I really liked the look of how she decorated her windows and thought that it would make a great addition to my den in my own home. After a few minutes of discussion here is what I found out.
Essentially, my neighbor used decorative window film on her windows. She purchased the film online at a specialty retailer and then they shipped it to her in about 3 or 4 days. The process didn't sound too difficult as the window film is adhesive free and stays on by just using static. She mentioned that it did take a little bit of a learning curve when she first applied the film, but after the second or third window, she had the process down and was able to knock out all of the windows she wanted done in an afternoon. She also showed me the back of her home (which wasn't visible from the street obviously) and she had a couple of kitchen windows that she put window cling borders on.
In any case, for my den, I'm going to take her advice and shop online and see what I can come up with for a design and pattern of window film that makes sense for my decor. I am not really sure if I'll cover the whole window or not, but I defintely would consider creating the same type of window cling borders that my neighbor did and possibly also add some corner pieces to create some style and color to my room. Then when next Winter rolls around, I'll be able to enjoy those new colors and not be so down in the dumps over the drab gray skies that make up most of those cold snowy days.
