It is always interesting when you need new window curtains, because there are so many different colors, styles and textures to choose from that you can easily end up with a whole new look, without having an exact look in mind when you start shopping. If you are decorating your room from scratch, the choice can be quite overwhelming, however, especially if your curtains are the first item you are choosing, giving you every option for color and style.
Therefore, before you start shopping for curtain panels, it makes sense to have an idea of the type of room you have in mind, at least as far as the following is concerned:
1. Contemporary or Traditional
When you look at any one panel you can immediately see if it is more suitable for a traditional or contemporary room setting, by the style of curtain heading and the fabric. So if you have an idea of the basic type of room or look you want to create, this will cut down the number of curtains that you need to consider by about half.
2. Color
Don't rule out too many colors and patterns by having a fixed idea of color, unless you are dead set on a particular color scheme. However, it is a good idea to know the broad type of color scheme you are aiming for, such as whether you would like a warm neutral, fresh modern bright or a monochromatic, black and white scheme.
3. Budget
If you have a limited budget for curtains you may as well set it up front so that you don't waste your time looking at curtains you can't afford.
4. Measurements
The length of curtains you require will dictate in many cases whether curtains are suitable for your room. In most cases, curtains can be shortened (although it would be a waste to buy full length curtains when you only need short ones) but there is no point buying curtain panels, which are too short.
