Maintain a warm and cosy home is a high priority on every home owners list. Keeping the home warm is necessary so that you can be fully comfortable in all of the rooms of you house and not be confined to one ‘warm’ room. Central heating was a key moment in the history of home warmth – the idea behind it was to try and maintain an even temperate throughout all of the rooms This not only did this meant that you could move freely through your home but because all of the rooms were at a similar temperature there was no heat transfer between them, and this in turn meant that there were no internal draughts created.
Keeping all of the rooms of your home at the same temperature can be a task and some homes are very challenging spaces to keep at a constant temperature. For instance - rooms with large windows in them can be very difficult to keep warm as the temperature of the glass will change rapidly with the outdoor area. One solution to this problem is to have double glazing installed – although the glass will be cold to touch it will not transfer the heat from your home to the outside so rapidly. Other major things that you can do to increase the warmth of your home are to install loft insulation and cavity wall insulation – both of these will significantly increase the eco-friendliness of your house.
Perhaps you don’t have the money to have all of these things done to your home, well, there are simple cost effective methods that can help to keep the rooms of your home warm and comfortable. For instance a draught excluder along the bottom of doors that go to the outside will reduce drafts and drawing the curtains once the sun has set will ‘insulate’ windows from the cold night time temperatures.
