Romantic feminine style rooms may not be for everyone but they are popular with many and they are a great way of showing your softer feminine side whether you are a five year old wanting a princess style bedroom or a fifty year old corporate executive who is fed up with looking at glass and stainless steel at work and wants to relax and get away from the office at home. Here are some tips for getting the romantic look just right-
1. Soft Flooring
You can have a romantic room with a hard marble floor but it is easier if you have a softer neutral colored plain carpet. If you are stuck with a hard floor then at least soften it with a beautiful rug in cream or pastel colors.
2. Extravagent Drapes
The romantic style lends itself to floaty scarf window valances and sheer embroidered curtains in summer which you can replace with equally draping yet heavy velvet valances and curtains in winter. Although contemporary interiors love plain and simple styles and colors, the romantic style can go mad with fringing and beading and very elaborate curtains and valances will not look out of place.
3. Subtle Patterns and Colors
Romantic style favors soft, faded colors and small scale patterns. Not for this style the bright, large geometric shapes of the contemporary interior. Look for chintzy florals and cream, beige, pale green, lavender, pink and blue colors in your fabrics. Toile de Jouy works well too.
4. Comfort
The romantic look is a comfortable one. There is nothing bright or glaring about it as we have seen from the color selection. Textures should be soft too with nothing scratchy or harsh. Choose a soft cashmere throw to decorate your sofa or bed which you can snuggle up to if the weather turns colder.
5. Lighting
Make lighting as soft as possible too. Cut out glaring sun with sheer curtains and drapes. Avoid overhead lights and use table lamps or candle light instead.
