With so much attention being paid to conserving energy many people are taking a hard look at the kind of light bulbs that they're using in their bathrooms. We're all looking to save energy and money, but what kind of drawback is there to changing from the traditional incandescent bulbs that we've been using for so long? This post wants to answer just that, as well as show some semi-energy efficient bulbs that will make a dramatic effect when improving bathroom lighting.
Swapping out your incandescent light for compact fluorescent lights may be the first thing that you think when you are looking to conserve energy. This makes great sense for energy conservation, but these lights really don't work in the bathroom. Fluorescent lighting is harsh and gives the skin a yellow and orange tint when you're looking in the mirror. You might not think that's a big deal, but a yellow tint when putting on blue make up will make it look green. That's a big deal!
The harshness of the light also makes it not a very good choice for the bathroom. It will cast hard shadows on the face, which make things like shaving and cutting nose hairs difficult.
There are solutions though, but they aren't quite as energy efficient as CFL bulbs are. Both tungsten and halogen lights produce a very natural light that doesn't tint the skin. Neither of these types of bulbs draw as much energy as incandescent light does so you're saving energy as well. These lights are also brighter per watt then the traditional bulbs are so you can get away with using a lower wattage light, saving more energy.
It's certainly possible to be "green" without sacrificing the function of your bathroom. The best thing is that when using tungsten and halogen lights you're actually improving the quality of your bathroom's light while saving energy!
