How to Install Interlocking Garage Floor Tiles
Whether you just had a brand new garage floor put in, or have a floor worn by years of use, interlocking tiles can be a great way to extend the life of the concrete as well as making it look more stylish. These garage floor tiles can be purchased at hardware stores, and flooring outlets all over. With a little bit of practice, and the right directions installing these floors is not very hard at all.
The first step to installing a new tile floor is applying the spacers to all of the walls around the garage. Many different materials can be used as a spacer. As long as they are ¼ inch thick they will work just fine. The spacers are only temporary so they should be applied in a way that will not be that difficult to remove. A few nails or staples should do just fine.
After the spacers have been applied it is time to install the tiles. Set the first tile in one of the corners and then slot the next tile in to it. It will only take a mild amount of pressure to hook the two tiles together. Work your way down one wall keeping the tiles tight to the spacer. This will ensure a nice square installation. When you reach the wall at the end of the row there will typically be a space too small for a whole tile to fit. Pieces will have to be cut to fit in these sections. A circular saw or a table saw will work just fine for this purpose. After the last piece of the run has been put in it is time to start the next run. Slot the tiles into both the tiles of the last run and the ones on the current run. The same process should be continued until reaching the end of the garage. When you get close to the garage door it is important to ensure that there will be enough room to attach the edging without it being under the garage door.
These floors are very easy to install. With only a minor amount of work the life and functionality of the floor will be extended for years to come.
