Steps To Protect Your Concrete Flooring
Stained concrete is a favorable alternative to tiling and wood flooring. A well done concrete stain is a unique way to express your style through your flooring. When making the decision to use stained concrete, it's important that you protect your floors from cracking, scuffing, and water damage.
The best way to protect your concrete flooring is to use a high quality sealant and concrete acid stain. Acid stained concrete holds color longer, and actually mixes with the minerals present in the concrete to change the concrete's color tone. This will prevent any color from chipping away or cracking. And in fact, any scuffs that may accumulate help give a more rustic feel to your flooring making maintenance a breeze.
Putting an acid stain in your concrete and combining it with a penetrate sealant is an excellent way to protect your concrete flooring. Other factors to consider are dust and scuff repellents, or oil and grease repellents. If your flooring will be in a high traffic part of the home, a good dust or scuff repellent would help to protect your floor. If the concrete will be exposed to vehicle drainage, perhaps in a driveway or garage, an oil and grease repellent would be a good option. Whether or not the acid stain concrete will be set in harsh weather conditions such as rain or snow, will decide how deep of a water repellent will be needed.
