Indoor Outdoor Carpeting Ideas and Tips
No matter what outside area you're trying to liven up, you may want to consider outdoor carpet. When thinking about carpeting areas outdoors, most of us think about the not so pretty green or bright blue marine carpet. Fortunately, there are more options out there for your outdoor carpeting needs. You may be surprised that there are indoor outdoor carpets that look just as good as carpet you see mainly indoors.
The reason you can use some carpets outdoors you would most likely see indoors is because of the synthetic fibers of olefin or polypropylene. These carpets are made to stand up to wear and tear and even fading and mold. The reason why most outdoor areas are seen using the traditional marine carpet is that it is made specifically to hold water; which is why you most often see it on boats or around a marina. By taking advantage of the olefin fiber, you can get stylish carpets that you typically see indoors and use them on outdoor areas around your patio or outdoor lounge.
When thinking of installation, there are two main types to consider. The traditional rolled carpet and outdoor carpet tiles. Rolled carpet is rolled out and adhered using carpet glue in long pieces and thus you have fewer seams; which is nice. However, if you ever need to replace an area that is worn or faded, you have to tear up the entire section and replace it. That is where carpet tiles come in handy. Although you have more seams, it's easier to replace a simple little square then an entire section. The best outdoor carpet tiles come with adhesive backs that are peeled and stuck directly to the surface. Regardless of what type of installation method you choose, the carpet will always lay and perform best if the surface is as flat and level as possible.
Keep in mind that you can use many different types of carpets outside to liven up your lounge or patio area; you're not restricted to marine carpet only. With that said, there are some more attractive marine carpet colors out there besides green and blue. You can find some nice neutral colors that go with just about any outdoor furniture or decor.
