4 Tips for Mattress Stain Removal
Sometimes, despite how careful you are with your new plush mattress, it can become stained. But if this happens, don’t despair. There are things that you can do to remove stains from your mattress, and most stains on mattresses can be taken care of without a problem.
Here are some top tips that you can use for mattress stain removal.
- The first thing to do is to try a very mild solution. Mix a solution using a ¼ of mild powder detergent with a cup of warm water. Beat the mixture until you have suds that look similar to whipped cream, then blot the suds on the mattress with a clean sponge, then wipe them off with a sponge that’s been dipped in some warm water and then wrung out.
- If the stain is a tough one, using upholstery shampoo is a good idea. Make sure that you are following the products instructions.
- If you have a blood stain on your mattress, hydrogen peroxide is a good choice. First, blot your stain with an old white towel, working in from the outer part of the stain as the bubbling starts. Continue your blotting until the blood is no longer seeping onto your towel. Please note that there may be stains that you can’t remove.
- Urine can be removed in the same way as blood, or you can use white vinegar for blotting.
Whether you have an orthopedic mattress or a waterbed mattress, if it gets stained, then using one of the tips above can help you to remove it.
It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t allow any liquid to seep into the padding of the mattress, and you should wait until your mattress is completely dry before you put the mattress pad or sheets back onto it. This is going to help you to avoid mildew and mold.
