How To Choose A Bathroom Exhaust Fan
A bathroom exhaust fan can be a great addition to any bathroom for both its utilitarian and aesthetic strengths. The primary purpose of a bathroom exhaust fan is to reduce odor and humidity from the room, regulating the atmosphere. There is an additional need to cut down humidity in the bathroom as the regular moisture released in the air during bathing and showering can cause mildew buildup and damage to the walls and ceiling if left unchecked.
The choice of model depends on which features the homeowner wants to include, such as a light fixture and/or a timer. Bathroom exhaust fans with lights are a good idea if the room has inadequate overhead lighting, or if you want to camouflage the fan so that it matches the rest of the décor. A timer will enable you to maximize the humidity-reducing function of the exhaust fan even on forgetful days.

Not just any fan will do the trick. The right fan depends on the dimensions of the room, and must meet certain specifications. The Home Ventilation Institute recommends bathroom exhaust fans that move air at a rate of one cubic foot per minute per square foot. A minimum of 50 cubic feet per minute is suggested for even the tiniest bathroom, to ensure that air is moved enough to prevent moisture buildup. Very large rooms, in excess of 100 feet, should have a fan, which moves 50 CFM for each fixture (tub, toilet, etc).

Back for another one...

During our first bathroom renovation I purchased what I thought was a good fan and it was way too loud. Pulled it out and purchased this one. Has turned out to be just perfect. Extremely quiet but it's 'just' loud enough to know it's on and I like that.
We're now redoing our second bathroom and will get another one of these. Don't forget to calculate your bathroom CFM (LxWxH ÷ 7.5) so you know what size to purchase. |
Great, Quiet Fan - No More Fog on the Mirror

| My husband and I did a lot of research on "crapper fans" as my hubbie calls them. Most of the reviews pointed to this fan as the best, most effective, and most quiet of them. Despite the price - I admit I got the "oh geez" face when I understood we were paying more than $100 for a bathroom fan - we got one for each of our full baths. I can't say enough that they are great!!! Whisper quiet is an understatement; really, you can't tell that they are on. But most importantly, my husband can take his devilishly hot showers without fogging up the mirrors and causing any more steam damage to the paint. This is an excellent product. It's completely worth the few extra dollars. |

| This exhaust fan is very quiet and moves a lot of air, my bath mirror barely steams up any more. My problem is now I forget to turn it off because I barely can hear it. |
