A Contemporary Makeover For The Bathroom
When renovating the bathroom, most people prefer to go for a more modern or contemporary look. However, most people are not quite sure what a contemporary look is. We shall look at the ways to upgrade your bathroom to make it look as modern as possible.
Color is one of the first areas to look at, but not just the main color but the combination of colors used. The best way to start is to go into a home improvement store and look at the swabs of colors available to see which color schemes work well and look good. If there is a lot of natural light in the bathroom, you may find you can get away with darker colors. Most bathrooms are quite dark, which means you will need to focus on the lighters shades available.
After deciding upon a color, the next is to consider how you will be decorating. You need to decide an whether you will just be painting or adding tiles or even wall paper. What sort of flooring will you be using? Tiles, wood or carpeting are among the most common choices. Although wood is a great choice for a contemporary bathroom, you need to consider the problem of water damage. Many people opt for the alternative of wood effect laminate flooring to address this. Also, carpeting may cause a problem in terms of both water damage and hygiene.
Now you know what the surroundings in the bathroom will look like, you now need to consider the bathroom suite. You will find that designers are producing more and more wonderful and beautiful baths, basins and shower enclosures. You need to make sure they are functional though and not just aesthetically pleasing. Also you need to decide on the level of luxury you want to go to. Some of the more extravagant accessories include the steam shower units, saunas whirlpool baths. Installing a steam shower will give you the benefits of both a shower and a steam room.
The fixtures and fittings are the next areas to look at. Make sure you pick the same design and materials for all the components of the bathroom suite. Gold can look good in most situations, but for the modern look, chrome or stainless steel is the material of choice. In period or antique bathrooms, brass looks best.
One of my favorites, in the shower, is to use a rain shower head. They are larger than the normal shower head you typically find but look great in modern bathrooms. They can also be found as a hand held model which is useful if you just need something to wash your hair.
After installation of all the components it is time to look at matching the accessories. For the bathroom vanities a glass mirrored effect is an excellent choice. Not only are they beautiful but also very functional. Items such as bins and toilet brushes should all match to get the final look perfect.
